Trinity is Just a Few Turns Away
By Land
Weaverville is an easy 3.5 hr drive from Sacramento and 4 hours from the San Francisco East Bay, 3 hours from Medford, and 2 hours from Eureka/Arcata/Highway 101.
Trinity Lake is 4.5hrs, 2.5hrs, and 2.75hrs respectively.
Highway 299 is the main access road into and through Trinity County. It is a well traveled highway with large passing lanes. It begins at the Nevada state line, runs through Redding (with access from Interstate-5) and on to Weaverville where it is the Main Street of town. It then follows the Trinity River most of the way to Arcata where it junctions with Hwy. 101 on the coast. It is subject to closures in extreme winter weather.
Highway 3 will take you from Southern Trinity/Hayfork/ Hwy. 36, through Weaverville and then up along Trinity Lake to the northern edge of Trinity County and on to Scott Valley and finally to Yreka and Interstate 5. It is a two lane road with many turns and may be closed in the winter after heavy snowfall.
Highway 36 runs East/West from Red Bluff/Interstate 5, through Southern Trinity/Mad River and on to Highway 101 below Fortuna near the coast. This is a narrow two lane road enjoyed by motorcyclists. It may be closed in the winter after heavy snowfall.
Chains or snow tires maybe required on the high passes of Trinity County in the winter.
By Air
The closest commercial airport is Redding (RDD). United Airlines operates flights from and to San Francisco and Los Angeles on a daily schedule. Rental cars are available at the Redding Airport. The driving time from Redding Airport to Weaverville is 1 hour.
Trinity County owns and operates five public use general aviation airports located throughout the county. Both residents and visitors can access the rugged remoteness of Trinity County easily and enjoy the surrounding attractions of each airfield’s locale.
Overnight tiedowns at Trinity County airports are $3.00 per night. Seasonal or annual permits are available from the Trinity County Department of Transportation.
