Step Back in Time: Experience Trinity Heritage Days
Posted by TrinityCounty on Apr 24, 2026 in Trinity Blog
Trinity County is home to a deep, multifaceted history, and there is no better time to explore it than during our most anticipated annual cultural event: Trinity Heritage Days.
Whether you are a lifelong resident or a visitor drawn to Northern California’s rich past, this is a rare opportunity to connect directly with the traditions, arts, and stories that shaped our region.
“An Experience Honoring the Land, Peoples, and Stories of our Place.”
A Living History Experience
Held on Saturday, May 9, 2026, this day-long celebration is completely free and transforms Historic Downtown Weaverville into a hub of traditional arts, foods, music, and hands-on workshops.
Here is a look at the cultures and histories you can explore:
- The Nor-Rel-Muk Wintu Nation: The day begins at 11:00 AM with an Opening Ceremony at the scenic Highland Art Center Meadow (691 Main Street). Afterward, tribal artists will host incredible drop-in workshops. You can learn how to process acorns into food, make dream catchers, and learn about traditional animal skinning.
- Chinese Heritage & Joss House State Historic Park: Discover Weaverville’s deep-rooted Chinese history. Take a free tour of the stunning Taoist Temple—the oldest continuously used Chinese temple in California—and participate in traditional Chinese crafts.
- Hmong Cultural Sharing: Located right in front of the Joss House, the Hmong community will be sharing their vibrant culture. Sit down with local artisans and learn the intricate art of embroidery by making your own coaster to take home.
- Pioneer Life at the Jake Jackson Museum: Step directly into the Gold Rush era. Explore an authentic miner’s cabin, wander through the historical museum, and watch skilled blacksmiths forge raw metal into incredible works of art.
Explore Historic Weaverville
The workshops and activities run until 4:00 PM, but the history doesn’t stop there. We encourage you to stroll through the Historic Downtown District. Weaverville’s remarkably well-preserved downtown offers a perfect backdrop for continuing your historical exploration, grabbing a bite to eat, and reflecting on the diverse peoples who built this community.
