“Jane Eyre,” a well-known gothic romance novel written by Charlotte Brontë in 1847, has been adapted into a play by Christina Calvit.
The story follows the orphaned Jane Eyre (Riley Demiany), who overcomes her abusive and lonely childhood experiences to become an accomplished governess at Thornfield, the home of the mysterious Mr. Rochester (Connor Randolph). She is drawn to the master of the house, but their future is destroyed by a secret from his past — a secret that forces Jane to flee Thornfield into poverty and illness. As the story goes on, Jane is able to find family, wealth and love, but not without a cost. While Calvit’s version is faithful to the original story, this adaptation also focuses on Jane’s gradual ability to shed the ghosts of her past to blossom into a fully realized woman.
Other cast members include Juniper Peterson as Helen, Vanna Austin as Mrs. Reed, Tyler Chapman as Mr. Brocklehurst, Annalissa Moffit as Mrs. Fairfax, Julie Vela as Adele Varens, Lilian Gabler-Smith as Grace Poole, Sara Keating as Blanche Ingram, May Graham as Mary Ingram, Naomi Munoz as Lady Ingram, Jelosie Coleman as Amy Eshton, Alex Vela as Richard Mason, Amber Wilson as Dr. Carter, Jacob Ward as Reverend Wood, Abbie Comiskey as Bertha, Allison Corbett as Hannah, Riley Keating as St. John Rivers, Grace Desrosiers as Diana Rivers, Jordan Frazer as Mary Rivers, and Leah Poburko as the Porter. M’Alee Jibben plays a series of townspeople, and various servants of Thornfield are played by Leah Poburko, Jacob Ward, Jordan Frazer and Grace Desrosiers.
The play is being produced and directed by Rachel La Fein.
