Community Wetland Weekend
United States of America
Community Wetland Weekend, cleanup and restoration efforts, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. both days, Hayfork Community Wetlands.
Day one, Feb. 16, will include invasive species removal and ground stabilization. Day two, Feb. 17, will consist of native species planting and wetland beautification. Come to one or both days and be a part of this continuing story.
The area in which the Hayfork Community Wetlands sits began as a gold mine dredge. In the years since the project began, it has been cultivated into a natural wetland. The Wetlands filter cleans water for Hayfork Creek and all of its inhabitants, while also providing habitat for many creatures within the Wetlands themselves. The beautification and maintenance of this space means continual access to outdoor education and public recreation for students, community members, and nature enthusiasts alike.
Parking will be located at Hayfork High School on Oak Avenue. Bring a water bottle, sturdy covering clothes that can get dirty, closed-toed shoes, gloves and rain gear (if necessary). The event will happen rain or shine. Snacks will be provided and all ages are invited to attend.
